Since the first time he stepped on stage to sing, back in 1994, there have been hundreds of occasions on which he has performed live, for audiences of up to more than a thousand people. He has taken part in jams, has organized them, has played solo, with his bands, as a guest in other people’s concerts, at festivals, tours, spontaneous performances, tributes, busking, accompanying theatre plays, poetry concerts...

Performances have taken place across several countries and regions: Argentina, Spain, England, Austria, France, Portugal, Morocco... and in each place experiences, anecdotes, memories and friendships multiply.

Sebastián Griz (solo)

Although his main instrument has always been the guitar, following the advice of Claudio Gabis, he decided to also apply himself to singing so as not to depend on the possibility of having a vocalist.

Thanks to this, he has performed on numerous occasions with guitar and voice in an acoustic format, although at other times he has done so with sitar, with pre-recorded accompaniments, and sometimes with guest musicians. He also plays other instruments such as sitar, bass, mandolin, charango, ukulele, didgeridoo, keyboards... and some others, which has allowed him to fit into different projects and events.

Lupercalia

After meeting his current partner, Ana de Gracia, who is a singer, he decides to form a band with the intention of performing live again after the forced hiatus of the pandemic period.

On some occasions the two of them perform at a variety of musical events, but the intention to form a band persists. Thus, after various line-ups and many musicians coming and going, they make their first performance as a band under the name Lupercalia in the city of L Hospitalet de Llobregat, where Ana is originally from. On that occasion they are joined by Anibal Benaglia on drums and Ezequiel de Escalada on bass.

Currently the band consists of Ana de Gracia (vocals), Anibal Benaglia (drums), Stuart Grant (bass), Marta Costa (percussion), Sebastián Topol (keyboards and backing vocals), and Sebastián Griz (guitar, backing vocals, sitar, others).

Mariposa Lunar

It was a band that fused music from different cultures and eras without focusing on any one in particular.

Based mainly on compositions by Sebastián Griz, it showed traits of Arab, Indian, sub-Saharan, South and Central American, Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Japanese music... performed with both acoustic and electric sounds.

Thanks to constant innovation in its repertoire and the inclusion of many guest musicians, each performance was a unique and unrepeatable ritual.

Over the three years it lasted, they did more than 100 performances, including concerts and jams.

Ethnodelic jam

From early 2008 to 2011, Sebastián Griz, together with Mariposa Lunar and other musicians, organized Barcelona’s first stable ethnic and experimental jam.

In these jams, no standards, covers, or typical structures of any style were played. Musicians simply stepped on stage with their instruments (whatever kind they were...) and began to improvise freely, according to the mood of the moment and their own feelings.

There was an enormous variety of instruments and styles from all over the world, and creativity was always prioritized over technique.

Production

Event production, music direction, sound technician, artistic director, stage manager... these are roles and functions needed to make a concert happen properly. That is why sometimes you have to be “behind the stage”.

Some artistic groups and institutions he has collaborated with include the Argentine Consulate in Barcelona (co-producer of the tribute to Luis Alberto Spinetta), CAC - Centro Argentino de Catalunya (co-producer, artistic director, sound technician), FEDMUN (creator and co-producer of the festival), Soulmade (stage manager, associate producer), Compañía de Teatro Improducción (soundtrack creator and sound technician), among others.
