Literature

Sebastián Griz

At the age of 14 he began writing poetry and short pieces of fiction. A few years later he started publishing his poems and short stories in the magazine Beatrizos, and later on in other printed and digital outlets.

He is currently a board member of the poetry association Rimando entre Versos, with which he organizes cultural and artistic activities and events across different disciplines, especially those linked to poetry.

After many years of writing, and after selecting from his work, he discovered he had enough material to make up to five books. For this reason he decided to publish them, with the aim of sharing them with the public. To do so, he chose to group poems and short stories by theme rather than organizing them chronologically.

As for his poetic style, he draws influences from authors of different eras, origins and movements, with special emphasis on Ibero-American poetry and traditional Chinese poetry, as well as—though to a lesser extent—French- and English-language writers, both poets and lyricists.

Among his main poetic influences are Oliverio Girondo, Jorge Luis Borges, Alejandra Pizarnik, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Alfonsina Storni, Violeta Parra, Antonio Machado, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Liu Yun, Wang Sung, Charles Baudelaire, William Blake and Roger Waters, among others.

In the realm of short fiction, influences include Carlos Castaneda, Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar, Horacio Quiroga, Edgar Allan Poe, Eduardo Galeano and José Luis Sepúlveda, among others.

Babylon and the Sunflowers

Babylon and the Sunflowers — cover

Babylon and the Sunflowers focuses on social, institutional and human critique. It not only rails against institutions, but also against the mediocrity, stupidity and conformism found in a large part of individuals.

Thus, Babylon, “the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth”, would be the promoter of what is harmful and hollow, the superficial and the deceitful; but poems are also dedicated to those who do nothing more than nod their heads, blinded by its shine (the sunflowers).

! (The Eye 1) — cover

This book contains various poems that show bright aspects of life.

It is one of two clearly antagonistic parts, which together form feelings and thoughts with a very marked dichotomy. They could be presented metaphorically as two sides of oneself, or as a mirror.

Umbria

Umbria — cover

Visions of madness; a sanity blurred by depression and alcohol, a mental shipwreck. The need to get the pain, the rage, the alienation out... almost an exorcism in the form of a poetry book.

Short stories

Short stories

For the moment I have only published individual short stories sporadically, and occasionally in digital media.

One of those stories is The Other Child, which is part of an autobiographical series with a Latin American existentialist style, influenced by authors such as Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar and Luis Sepúlveda.
